The moving fauna and changing colors of the scrublands and pastures follow the course of the seasons. <\/p><p>The landscape around us is characterized by a specific geology:<\/p><ul><li>The terraced lands created by the river, previously used for orchards, now constitute productive irrigated fields.<\/li><li>The bands of different colors speak to the distinct moments in the landscape&#8217;s evolution. Where today we see a hill, there once existed flat surfaces covered by bodies of water. <\/li><li>The gypsum-rich soils have traditionally been used for cultivating esparto grass.<\/li><li>The serial meanders of the rivers form on fast-flowing watercourses capable of eroding material from one bank and depositing it on the opposite side.<br>Among the notable vegetation we find:<\/li><li>Broom (Retama sphaerocarpa), almost the only shrub in overgrazed areas, bears witness to the livestock use of the zone.<\/li><li>The kermes oak (Quercus coccifera) forms part of the natural vegetation adapted to the climate and soil.<\/li><li>The Tagus riverside forest lost its maximum splendor when the waters were dammed.<\/li><li>The slopes of Valquemado are covered by a repopulated pine forest.<br>Amongst the fauna we can find:<\/li><li>The common buzzard (Buteo buteo) is one of the raptors that soars over the peninsula all year.<\/li><li>The common genet (Genetta genetta) was introduced by the Arabs to keep their homes free of mice.<\/li><li>Its completely black plumage and white beak and forehead make the Eurasian coot (Fulica atra) unmistakable.<\/li><li>The elegant flight of the grey heron (Ardea cinerea) with its neck folded in is a common sight near the river.<\/li><li>Where trout once leapt the swift waters, today the Iberian barbel (Barbus bocagei) inhabits the still currents.<\/li><li>The corn bunting (Miliaria calandra) can be seen solitary in spring on elevated perches like this fence, and in flocks in the fields during winter.<\/li><li>On loosely compacted soils with few trees, the Erythrian lizard (Acanthodactylus erythrurus) finds its most suitable environment.<\/li><li>The brimstone butterfly (Gonepteryx rhamni) is one of the first to appear in spring.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f4c5c1a e-con-full e-flex elementor-invisible e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"f4c5c1a\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;background_background&quot;:&quot;classic&quot;,&quot;animation&quot;:&quot;fadeInUp&quot;}\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1de90e8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"1de90e8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1536\" height=\"362\" src=\"https:\/\/reccopolisforall.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/C9-ENTORNO-1536x362.jpg\" class=\"attachment-1536x1536 size-1536x1536 wp-image-4005\" alt=\"The natural environment around the Tagus River can be observed.
