THE MONUMENTAL GATE

During the Visigothic era, a monumental entrance gate was erected to access the Palatine Complex, of which only the base remains preserved. It was constructed with ashlar stones coated in a lime plaster, standing approximately seven meters tall. In the Andalusian period, the gate was sealed off to fortify the entrance to the enclosure from that time. Evidence of this renovation can be seen in the ashlar blocks that served as stops for the door leaves and housed the hinge sockets.
