Visigothic inscription "REC" on marble

A Visigothic-era inscription reads S at the top, REC in the middle, and MMA at the bottom. This fragment may have been part of a much larger inscription, of which several fragments have been recovered in the Visigothic city of Reccopolis. The inscription is written on a thick piece of marble, although the side that was attached to the surface on which it was originally mounted is still preserved. Traces of the mortar that once bonded it to the surface are visible on this attached side. Furthermore, veins are visible in the piece due to fragmentation over time, revealing the white crystalline composition of the marble.
